About Maat Index

Maat was the Egyptian goddess of truth. Every heart was weighed against her feather. We weigh executives against their own words: every forward-looking claim from earnings calls, verified against what actually happened, across direction, magnitude, and timeframe.

The public rankings are free and editorially independent, permanently. No paid product can alter, suppress, delay, or preview a score.

Why this exists

In 2023, researchers at the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business surveyed 357 financial officers at publicly traded companies. Two numbers stood out. The firms in the sample had met their initial earnings guidance about 31 percent of the time. Yet 90 percent of the managers said they were at least 70 percent confident their results would meet their guidance.

Executives make forward-looking statements every quarter, in public, on the record. Almost nobody goes back and checks. Maat Index closes that loop: every claim extracted, every outcome verified against a verbatim citation, every executive scored in public.
